As of SEP sesam v. 4.4.3 Grolar you can use Amazon S3 (simple storage solution) cloud storage to safely store and retrieve your business data. Restoring from Amazon S3 is quite similar to a regular file system restore. Restore wizard guides you through the process of restoring your data. For step-by-step procedure, see Standard Restore Procedure.

Note that in case the data you want to restore is not available on local S3 store anymore, Si3 data files will be downloaded from S3 cloud storage to local store first.

Restore from S3 via GUI is not possible with old generation Si3 store

The old generation Si3 deduplication store is deprecated. This means that the old generation Si3 is no longer being enhanced, but is still supported until further notice. SEP strongly recommends using the new Si3 NG data store instead, especially if the data is to be stored to S3 Cloud.

 • If you are using old generation Si3 deduplication store, it is not possible to perform a restore from S3 using the GUI.
 • With old generation Si3, restore can only be performed using a command line interface (CLI).
 • SEP strongly recommends that you upgrade from Si3 deduplication store to Si3 NG deduplication store to significantly improve backup and migration performance and enable smooth restore. You can also configure a new Si3 NG and an old Si3 in parallel on the same host and replicate from the old Si3 to the Si3 NG store. For details, see Configuring Si3 NG Deduplication Store.
 • A restore using CLI is a complex procedure. If for some reason you have no other option but to use it, please contact SEP sesam support for assistance.
