Overview

This article provides a checklist to help you identify your SAP HANA resources and requirements in order to properly configure SEP sesam environment for SAP HANA. For details on SAP HANA installation and configuration, see Installing and configuring SAP HANA module on the database server.

SAP HANA checklist

SAP HANA environment

  • Which processor architecture is used on the SAP HANA system?
  • Which OS is installed on the SAP HANA environment?
  • Which SAP HANA version is used?
  • Do you use a single-tenant or a multi-tenant database?

SEP sesam Server environment

  • Which OS is desired for the SEP sesam Server?
  • Which data store would be best? An Si3 deduplication or a normal data store? For details, see Data Stores.
  • Should the SEP sesam Server be used on a hypervisor?
  • If yes:
    • Is the storage connected directly to the VM of the SEP sesam Server?
    • If a server VM on the hypervisor should be moved arbitrarily, should an RDS with physical storage be used instead?
    • Is it ensured that the SEP sesam Server has been allocated enough resources, and that these resources cannot be taken from other VMs?

    or

Should the SEP sesam Server be used on a physical machine?

Connection

  • Does the DNS server work properly? Can any required client be resolved without problems (i.e., long and short name, forward and reverse DNS lookup)? For details, see How to check DNS configuration.
  • What is the connection between the SEP sesam Server and SAP HANA machine? 1G, 10G? If 1G, are you sure that this is enough for your environment?
  • How is the data store connected? iSCSI, NAS, SAN, NFS?

Backup, migration and replication

  • How large is the data volume which should be backed up?
  • How often should the FULL backup of the database be triggered (e.g., daily, weekly, etc.)? This is important for the retention time, which affects the backup size in the data store, see Managing EOL.
  • How often and where should a migration/replication take place?
  • Do you intend to do a BSR backup together with your SAP HANA backups?
