Overview

Si3 encryption for Si3 deduplication store is one of the SEP sesam encryption types (also available are software-based and LTO encryption), introduced in v. 4.4.3 Tigon. SEP sesam provides encryption for Si3 deduplication to help ensure compliance with data protection legislation.

The administrator can set an arbitrary encryption key, which is only known to the SEP sesam Server. If the encryption key is not available, the Si3 encrypted data cannot be read.

Configuring Si3 encryption

Si3 encryption is set by creating the deduplication security password file and specifying it in the relevant drive properties.

Steps

  1. From Main selection -> Components, click Data Stores to display the data store contents frame.
  2. Select preconfigured Si3 deduplication store and double-click it (or click Properties from the Data stores menu). A new window Data Store opens.
  3. Under the Data Store properties, double-click on the first drive of the Si3 deduplication store. A Drive Properties window opens.
  4. Si3 encryption.png
  5. Under Options, specify the deduplication security password file you created before. For example:
    hw_drives.options=jvmopts=-Xmx1296M -XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=2565M,dedup.security.passwdfile="C:/ProgramData/SEPsesam/si3_7.pass".
    Click OK to configure Si3 encryption.
