Overview

The SEP sesam online module for Kopano (formerly Zarafa) provides hot backup and restore of Kopano groupware servers. This includes backing up and restoring single user mails, mailboxes and public folders. Restore is triggered from the Menu bar -> Activities -> Restore. Restore wizard guides you through the process of restoring your data. For general step-by-step procedure, see Standard Restore Procedure.

As of v. 4.4.3. Grolar, you can also perform an online restore of emails from Kopano backups to which you have been granted access. Note that only authenticated users that have been granted appropriate permissions are able to access the Self-Service Restore Assistant and restore their data. For details, see Self-Service Restore Assistant.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that you have sufficient restore permissions and access rights.
  • Ensure that there is enough free space on the target system to which you are restoring your data.

Configuring Kopano restore

SEP sesam supports single item restore (restore of individual elements such as e-mails and contacts from the backup) as well as a full mailbox restore. When restoring single mails, the only option you can select in the last step of the restore wizard is Auto recover after restore. If selected, SEP sesam will import the mail into the original mailbox. Otherwise, the exported mail data and index files will be restored into the file system to <SESAMVAR>/work/kopano and can be imported manually with the regular Kopano command (kopano-backup).

Steps

Before you begin, ensure that the prerequisites are met. This example shows the procedure for restoring a single mail into the original folder. The procedure differs slightly depending on whether you are restoring a single mail or a regular mailbox. In the latter case, the complete mailbox is selected instead of an individual mail (refer to steps 4 and 5).

  1. From the SEP sesam GUI menu bar, select Activities -> Restore. The New restore task window opens.
  2. Select what you want to restore. You can search save sets by task name or by filename or path.
  3. Under the Saved in period drop-down lists, specify the time frame for which you want to conduct the search. Click Next.
  4. Kopano restore filter Tigon.jpg
  5. The search results are displayed. From the list of save sets matching your query, click the version you want to restore. Click Next.

If you want to perform a complete mailbox restore, select complete restore of selected task and set additional restore options in the final step of the wizard. For details, see Standard Restore Procedure.

  11. If you want to start your single mail restore immediately, click Start. If you want to save the restore task, click Save.

A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.

You can view the status of your restore jobs by selecting Job state -> Restore from the Main selection. Restore overview provides detailed information on the last run of restore jobs, including the task name, status (successful, error, in queue, etc.), start and stop time of the last backup, data size, throughput, client, media pool and message.
