Overview

The restore of GroupWise Server is quite similar to a regular file system restore. Restore is triggered from the Menu bar -> Activities -> Restore. Restore wizard guides you through the process of restoring your data. For step-by-step procedure, see Standard Restore Procedure. Before you begin, check that all prerequisites are met.

Restore options

SEP sesam Novell Client supports path relocation for restored data (check prerequisites). The following options are available when restoring Novell GroupWise:

  • restore single objects from user mailbox (restore post office to restore area, undelete the objects with GroupWise Windows client)
  • restore whole mailbox (restore post office to restore area, administrative recover with ConsoleOne/AdminConsole for 2014)
  • restore domains (restore of the domain to a temporary folder and use of the required files)
  • restore libraries (restore of the library folders from post office backup and use of the required files)

Restoring a Novell GroupWise Server

You must use the GroupWise Windows Client or the Admin for the recovery of the missing objects. You can recover all missing objects with ConsoleOne. For details, see relevant Novell GroupWise documentation.

Create a new restore task for the GroupWise Server.

  1. From the SEP sesam GUI menu bar, select Activities -> Restore. The New restore task window opens.
  2. Select what you want to restore. You can search save sets by task name or by filename or path.
  3. When searching by task name, use the drop-down list of available tasks and select the one you want to restore from. This option is selected by default.
If you are searching by filename/path, select the option Filename or path in save set and enter your search expression in the search pattern field.
  4. Under the Saved in period drop-down lists, specify the time frame for which you want to conduct the search. Click Next.

  6. The search results are displayed. From the list of save sets matching your query, click the version you want to select. Click Next.
  7. Gw2012 create r task 02 en.jpeg
  8. Browse to the root of the GroupWise object. Click Next.
  9. Gw2012 create r task 03 en.jpeg
  10. Review your restore task configuration and set additional options if necessary.
    • The Drive field shows the drive with backed up data.
    • The Interface field shows the server with the attached data storage containing the selected save set.
    • The Target node drop-down list shows the target server to which the data will be restored.
    • Under the Target Path, choose your GroupWise restore area as New restore target and select Original tree structure.
    • Under the Execution options drop-down list, leave the default option do not overwrite existing files.

  12. Gw2012 create r task 06 en.jpeg
  13. If you want to start restore immediately, click Start. If you want to save the restore task, click Save. A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.
  14. To restore single user accounts and mailboxes, use ConsoleOne. Open the ConsoleOne and use Tools -> GroupWise Utilities. For step-by-step procedure on performing the ConsoleOne-specific actions, see the video.
Information sign.png Note
For SEP sesam server ≤ 4.2.1.37:

Due to a known restriction, the restore will create the complete path under the selected restore target path. Move the content of the root folder of the restored post office or domain to the root folder of the restore area. For reference, see the following example.

 Backup source: /media/nss/GW/grpwise/po1/*
 Restore target path: /restore/area1/

 will be restored to: /restore/area1/media/nss/GW/grpwise/po1/*

move the content from * including subfolders to /restore/area1/*

Known issues
