SEP sesam provides simple and flexible restore. You are guided through the procedure by using a restore wizard. You can restore any <application_name> that is configured as a SEP sesam Client and was successfully backed up. You can specify which ... to restore, how they are restored, and where they are restored to. You can restore <application_name>... to different locations.
To successfully restore a(n) <application_name> backup, all preparation steps must be performed properly. For details, see [[Special:MyLanguage/<application_name> Backup|<application_name> Backup]].
The following options are available when restoring <application_name>:
- Select an alternative location to restore your data:
- restore a(n) <application_name> to the original or a different location with the same or a different <application_name> using relocation
- restore a(n) <application_name> the same or a different ...
- perform a simple path restore of your selected <application_name> data directly to a directory on any system
- Restore a complete backup task.
- Schedule a restore task.
Before you perform <application_name> restore, check the following prerequisites:
- Depending on what you want to restore, make sure that you have the proper restore permissions and access rights.
- Make sure that there is sufficient free space on the target system to which you are restoring your data.

Restoring a/an <application_name>
For details on how to configure a restore task and a description of different restore options, see Standard Restore Procedure. Only <application_name>-specific steps and options are described in this section.
- From the SEP sesam GUI menu bar, select Activities -> Restore. The New restore task window opens.
Select the save set you want to restore. You can search save sets by task name or by filename or path.
- When searching by task name, use the drop-down list of available tasks and select the one you want to restore from. This option is selected by default.
- If searching by filename/path, select the option Filename or path in save set and enter your search expression in the search pattern field.
- Under the Saved in period drop-down lists, specify the time frame for which you want to conduct the search. Click Next.
- The search results are displayed. From the list of save sets matching your query, click the version you want to restore. Click Next.
If you selected the Mount save set option, a mount action is triggered. The selected save set is mounted to the SEP sesam home directory var\tmp\mnt, e.g., C:\Program Files\SEPsesam\var\tmp\mnt\save_set_ID.
Click Next to display the Select Files dialog. If you choose not to mount the save set, this dialog is displayed immediately. Select the data you want to restore and click Next.
Review your configured restore task and set additional options, if necessary.
- Details of the selected save set are displayed at the top of the window. The name of the restore task is automatically generated in the Name field. You can edit the name and insert a comment below.
- The Drive field shows the drive with backed up data.
- The Interface field shows the server (RDS server or Sesam server) with the attached data storage containing the selected save set.
- The Target node drop-down list shows the target server to which the data will be restored.
- Under the Target Path, choose between the Restore to original target path or New restore target options. If you wish to choose a new restore target, enter its target path or browse for it.
- Under the Execution options drop-down list, select one of the following options:
- do not overwrite existing files (set by default): the VM will not be restored if it already exists on the target server
- overwrite existing files: if data exists on the target server, it will be replaced by the restored version
- create new version: if data exists on the target server, the restored data will be restored under a different name
- You can specify additional restore settings by clicking the Expert options button. In the pop-up windows that opens, you can modify the log level settings, define the pre/post script for restore, etc. For details, see the Restore Wizard.
- If you want to start your restore immediately, click Start. If you want to save the restore task, click Save.
- If you chose to mount a save set, click Next to unmount it and close your restore session.
|A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.|
You can view the status of your restore jobs by selecting Job state -> Restore from the Main selection. Restore overview provides detailed information on the last run of restore jobs, including the task name, status (successful, error, in queue ...), start and stop time of the last backup, data size, throughput, client and message.
