5 1 0:Creating a Custom Calendar

From SEPsesam

Welcome to the latest SEP sesam documentation version 5.1.0 Apollon. For previous documentation version(s), check documentation archive.

Overview

A custom calendar can be created using the User Defined option in a schedule. This custom calendar can be tailored to meet country-specific or company-specific requirements.

With a custom calendar, you can define specific days on which you want to execute special jobs, such as backups and migrations. Additionally, you can specify certain dates on which scheduled jobs should be prevented from running. This feature is useful for setting up a custom calendar of public holiday dates for each year and assigning blocking events to ensure that scheduled jobs do not run during holidays.

To use a custom calendar, create a special, user defined schedule and assign either blocking events to this schedule to prevent jobs from running on dates defined in the calendar, or other regular events to execute specific jobs on selected dates.

You can create as many custom calendars as you need. These calendars can be used in schedules that are defined for a specific time period, such as one year if the holidays and specific dates are entered only for the upcoming year, or they can span multiple years.

You can modify, import, export, and delete a custom calendar as described in section Managing custom calendars.

Create a custom calendar

To create a calendar with custom dates for scheduling SEP sesam events, proceed as follows:

  1. From Main Selection -> Scheduling -> Schedules, click New schedule. The New Schedule window opens.
  2. Click User defined time interval option and then click New. A New Calendar window opens.

  4. Enter a name for the calendar in the Calendar name field. You can also provide an optional description or additional notes in the Summary field.
  5. In the calendar view, select the desired dates by clicking on them. You can select multiple dates if needed. To select a range of dates, click and drag the mouse over the desired range. To deselect a date, click on it again. You can navigate through the calendar using the provided navigation buttons in the top left and right corners of the calendar. You can use the single arrow to move back or forward by a month, and the double arrow to move back or forward by a year.

  7. After you have added all the necessary calendar events, click Create Calendar and then Yes to save the calendar.
  8. Optionally, when modifying a calendar, you can switch to Table View to display a list of the selected dates. To modify a calendar event, double-click on the event to open the dialog where you can edit the event name, modify the start or end date, or deactivate and delete the event from the calendar by deselecting the Active option. You can also add new calendar events. When you are done, click OK and then Yes to save the changes.

  10. Configure the schedule options as required and then click OK to save the schedule. For details see Schedule options.

Managing custom calendars

To manage custom calendars, open a schedule from Main Selection -> Scheduling -> Schedules and select the User defined time interval option. Select the calendar in the Calendar Name drop-down list. The following options are available for managing calendars:

  • Change: Allows you to modify an existing calendar and make changes to its specific calendar events. The procedure is the same as when creating a new calendar.
  • Delete: Deletes the selected calendar. If the calendar is still in use by another schedule, you will receive a notification that lists the dependent schedules. In order to delete the calendar, you must first remove its association from the dependent schedules.
  • Import: Allows you to add a calendar to your SEP sesam custom calendars by importing it in the .ics (iCalendar) format. Note that it may take some time to load the imported calendar.
  • Export: Enables you to export a calendar in the .ics format for use in other applications, such as Google Calendar or Apple Calendar. You can also copy all events from one SEP sesam calendar to another by exporting and then importing a calendar, or move the calendar to another SEP sesam Server.
