Are you looking for an alternative for your VMware environment?
SEP supports a range of hypervisors, offering snapshot-based online backup of VMs. Click HERE to get an overview of the available SEP modules and explore supported features like CBT, Single File Restore, and more. |
Overview
The Azure VM restore feature in SEP sesam provides recovery options for Azure VM virtual machines. It enables recovery of entire VMs, including the operating system, system state, and all attached disks, to their original location or an alternative destination in the Azure environment. Restores are performed using Azure snapshots previously backed up by SEP sesam and stored in the selected SEP sesam storage, whether local or cloud-based.
During restore, SEP sesam uses point-in-time snapshots from COPY backups to create a new VM with the same content and configuration as it had at the time of backup.
A restore task can be initiated immediately or saved and linked to a restore event for scheduling regular or repeated executions. For more information on scheduling, refer to Creating a Restore Event.
Prerequisites
Before you perform an Azure VM restore, make sure that the following prerequisites are met:
- To successfully restore an Azure VM backup, all preparation steps must be performed properly. For details, see Azure VM Backup.
- Depending on what you want to restore, make sure you have sufficient restore permissions and access rights. For details, see User Roles and Permissions.
- Single file restore (SFR) is not available for Azure VMs.
Restoring an Azure VM
Azure VMs are restored using the Restore Assistant. For more information on how to access the Restore Assistant and the general description of the web restore procedure and available options, see Standard Restore Procedure.
The functions and options available in the Restore Assistant may vary based on the selected UI mode and your user type. Some advanced restore options and functions are exclusively available in the Advanced view of the Restore Assistant. Access and functionality may also be restricted by custom roles with specific permissions. For details, see About Authentication and Authorization and User Roles and Permissions.
Steps
The following steps are performed in simple UI mode. They cover the most common restore cases and are the recommended method for performing a restore. For more experienced users, some additional restore options are available in advanced restore mode.
