5 2 0:Kopano Restore

From SEPsesam

Welcome to the latest SEP sesam documentation version 5.2.0 Artemis. For previous documentation version(s), check documentation archive.

Overview

The SEP sesam online module for Kopano (formerly Zarafa) provides hot backup and restore of Kopano groupware servers. This includes backup and restore of single user mails, mailboxes and public folders.

Restore interface

To perform restore in SEP sesam, you can use the web-based Restore Assistant. From v. ≥ 5.2.0 Artemis the restore procedure in the GUI is no longer available and Restore Assistant is the only method for restoring your data.

For more information on how to access the Restore Assistant and the general description of the restore procedure and available options, see Standard Restore Procedure.

Note
  • If you cannot access the web Restore Assistant, check if you have received the appropriate permissions for online restore.
  • The operations and options available after logging in may differ depending on the user type. Other Web UI display restrictions may depend on the custom roles with specific permissions and the UI mode.
For details, see About Authentication and Authorization and User Roles and Permissions.

Prerequisites

Before you perform Kopano restore, check the following prerequisites:

  • Depending on what you want to restore, make sure that you have the proper restore permissions and access rights. For details, see User Roles and Permissions.
  • Make sure that there is sufficient free space on the target system to which you are restoring your data.

Configuring Kopano restore

SEP sesam supports the restore of single items (such as e-mails and contacts from the backup) as well as the full mailbox restore.

When restoring individual mails, the only option you can select in the last step of the Restore Assistant is Auto recover after restore. If selected, SEP sesam will import the mail(s) into the original mailbox. Otherwise, the exported mail data and index files will be restored into the file system to <SESAMVAR>/work/kopano and can be imported manually with the regular Kopano command (kopano-backup).

For details on how to configure a restore task and a description of different restore options, see Standard Restore Procedure and Restore Assistant. Only Kopano-specific steps and options are described in this section.

Note
The Mount saveset option is available only in advanced UI mode. To use the mount option, make sure your UI mode is set to advanced, as described in Selecting UI mode.

If you prefer to watch a video, you can learn all the steps in Backup and restore of Kopano with SEP sesam.

Note
A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.

Steps

The following steps are performed in basic UI mode. They cover the most common restore cases and are the recommended method for performing a restore. For more experienced users, some additional restore options are available in advanced restore mode. For details, see Standard Restore Procedure.

  1. Open the Restore Assistant in the browser.
  2. In the start window, select Kopano Groupware and click Next.
  3. Screenshots

  4. In the Groupware Server window, under Client selection for restore, select your target client to which the data will be restored.
  5. In the Task window, under Task selection, select your source backup task.
Under Backup selection, select the exact backup version you want to restore. Note that Generation restore is selected by default. You can use the calendar function in the upper right corner to set a date range for the displayed backups.
    Click Next.
  6. In the Files window, select if you want to mount this saveset. The selected saveset is mounted to the SEP sesam home directory var\tmp\mnt. You can also continue with regular backup file explorer. Then, select the mailboxes to restore or drill down to select a single mail you want to restore. Click Next.
  7. In the Target window you can set additional restore options. To restore to the original location, under the Execution options, select Auto recover after restore. Note that all other fields must stay unchanged. Click Next.
  8. Optionally, in advanced UI mode, you can select additional restore options in the Options window.
  9. In the last step, check the summary of your restore task (restore type (based on task type, selected backup, its date and details, restore options, etc.) and click Start restore.
Note
A restore task can be scheduled like any other task. If you want to add a restore task to the schedule, see Scheduling Restore.

Monitoring restore

You can monitor the restore progress using the Web UI (Monitoring -> Restores) or view the status in the GUI (Main Selection -> Job State -> Restores). Restore overview provides detailed information on the last run of restore jobs, including the task name, status (successful, error, in queue...), start and stop time of the last backup, data size, throughput, client and message. For details, see Monitoring in Web UI.
